Sports Medicine Minor Midget AAA Colts have strong weekend at International Silver Stick
The Minor Midget AAA Colts were in Whitby this weekend competing in the International Silver Stick Finals.  This invitational tournament features some of the best Minor Midget teams in Canada and the US and provided a great venue for hockey all weekend.

The Colts started out the tournament on Thursday night against the Markham Majors.  The majors got on the board first and held a 1-0 lead into the second period.  The Colts then answered back with 3 goals in the second and 2 more in the third skating to a 5-1 win.
On Friday morning the Colts faced off against Detroit Little Caesars.  The Colts found the back of the net in the second period taking a 1-0 lead into the third period.  The Colts added another early in the third period and skated to the 2-0 shutout win.
Friday night the Colts faced the Don Mills Flyers.  Don Mills got on the board first and held the 1-0 lead after one.  The Colts tied the game at the half way mark of the second period and although the teams exchanged chances, the game remained tied at 1-1.
Game 4 of the round robin saw the Colts facing off against the London Junior Knights.  The Colts were looking for this win to secure the division win and a place in the tournament 1/4 finals.  Both team battled hard during the first period and it ended at 0-0.  The Colts scored at the 5 minute mark of the second and then again on a penalty shot 2 minutes later and held a 2-0 lead at the end of two.  That score stood at the end of the final period and the Colts skated another shutout win.

That secure the division win for the Colts and the third time this season they have appeared in tournament 1/4 finals.

In the 1/4 final game, the Colts faced the Toronto Marlboros, the #1 ranked team in Ontario.
The Colts came out determined and by the mid way mark of the second period, had built up a 3-0 lead.
The Marlboros fought back and at the 10 minute mark of the third period, the game was tied 3-3.

Off to OT they went, playing 10 minutes of 5 on 5 with neither team able to find the back of the net.  Next was 3 minutes of 4 on 4, then 3 minutes of 3 on 3, then 3 minutes of 2 on 2.
in the 8th over time period and playing 2 on 2, Ben Beausaert was able to find the back of the net and the Colts beat the Marlboros and were off to the semi finals.

Sunday morning the Colts faced off against their division rivals, the York Simcoe Express.  This speaks highly of the OMHA - ETA to see two teams from the same division in the semi finals of such a strong tournament.
The express got on the board first at the 5 minute mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.  They found the back of the net again in the second period and took the 2-0 lead into the third period.
While the Colts kept attacking, they could not get one to go in.  With a goal disallowed on the power play and a missed penalty shot, the Colts just could not find a way to score.  The game ended 2-0 for YSE and ended a great weekend run for the Colts.

The highlight of the weekend was the Colts goaltending.  Parker Simpson posted back to back shutouts to run his streak to 4 in a row while Jacob Ingham was the player of the game in both the Marlboros OT win the the York Simcoe loss.  Their effort was supported all weekend by very strong team play and a great effort by the entire team.  Well done boys !!

The Colts are back in action next weekend when they travel to Orillia for the OMHA Showcase weekend.
