Sports Medicine Minor Midget Colts have strong weekend at the OMHA-ETA Showcase.
The Sports Medicine Minor Midget AAA Colts were in Orillia this past weekend to play in the OMHA - ETA Minor Midget Showcase.  The Showcase featured all of the AAA teams from the OMHA - ETA league in one location to play a series of league games.  This provided a great venue for OHL and other junior teams to come and watch the next group of talented young hockey players as they move towards an attempt at junior hockey.

The Colts started off their weekend on Saturday afternoon when they played the Kingston Frontenacs.  Kingston came into the weekend as the top team in the east and a force so far this year in league play.
When the puck dropped to start the game it was clear that both teams came to play as they exchanged chances and hard hits all over the ice.  At the end of the first, it was tied at 0-0 but the Colts seemed to be finding a way to create chances.
The second started off well for the Colts as they found the net 3 times early in the period and although Kingston scored late in the period, the Colts held a 3-1 lead after two and really seemed to be taking the play to Kingston.  The Colts scored one more time in the third period and took the game with a decisive 4-1 score, a very well played game for Barrie from the net to the forwards.

On Sunday morning, the Colts faced the Quinte Red Devils, another tough team from the eastern conference of the league.  The Colts struggled to find their legs in this one.  Quinte scored to make it 1-0 in the first period.  In the second, Quinte added another and held a 2-0 lead into the third period.
The Colts scored early in the third but could not find that needed spark.  Quinte scored on the empty net to finish the game with a 3-1 win over the Colts.

Sunday afternoon the Colts finished off their weekend against the Oshawa Generals.  The Colts scored early and often in this one and held the play for the majority of the game.  In the end, the Colts scored 5 unanswered goals and took the game 5-0 with the shutout win.

The Colts are back in action this Saturday at the Innisfil Recreation Center when the host the Oshawa Generals for their final meeting of the season.

We would like to remind you that the Second Annual Start Talking Cup will be held on Monday January 18th at the Barrie Molson Center.  This game will feature league games between the Barrie Colts and North Central Predators at both the Minor Midget and Peewee age groups.

Tickets are $2 and available from any player on the participating teams.
All proceeds go the STACD Project, a program to engage youth so that they may Start Talking About the struggles they face during life transitions and how they deal with these struggles.
