Colts were flying high at OMHA Championships and finish with a Bronze.
The Sports Medicine Minor Midget Barrie Colts were in Clarington over the weekend for the OMHA Championship Tournament.  This is the second year in a row that the Colts won their way through the playoffs to earn a spot in the league Championship weekend.

The Colts started out the tournament playing the Southern Tier Admirals, a team the  Colts had not seen yet this year.  The Admirals got on the board first but the Colts responded with 4 straight goals, taking the game 4-2 and their first win of the tournament.

The Colts then faced the first placed York Simcoe Express.  The Express built a 2-0 lead and although the Colts battled hard, they just could not find the back of the YSE net.  The Express added a empty net goal to take the game 3-0.

In game 3, the Colts faced the Clarington Toros, a team that always competes hard.  The Colts and Toros exchanged goals over a hard fought game but it was the Toros that came out on top with a 4-3 win.

The Colts then faced the Hamilton Bulldogs, another team that the Colts had not yet played this year.  This was probably the best game of the tournament thus far as the teams exchanged chances and hard hits in a very fast paced game.  In the end, the Colts and Bulldogs tied 2-2 giving the Bulldogs the Gold medal game and the Colts back to the Bronze game for the second year in a row.

The Colts faced Southern Tier again and although their first game saw 6 goals, this one was not going to end in regulation.  In another hard hitting game with big saves at both ends, the teams ended the third period tied at 0-0.  It took until the middle of the third overtime period for the Colts to beat the STA goalie for a 1-0 win and back to back OMHA Bronze Medals.
Without surprise, Blair Coffin and Parker Simpson the two net minders were awarded the game MVP awards.

Congratulations Colts on winning the Bronze and securing a spot in the OHL Cup.

The Colts will now finish off their season at the OHL Cup with is hosted at Buckingham Arena in Toronto from March 15-21.

Keep an eye on the website for the schedule and come out to watch some of the best Minor Midget players in the province and beyond.
