2019-2020 Midget AAA Program
Details of the Barrie AAA Midget 2019-2020 Program from Head Coach, Patrick Armatage.

The 2019 – 2020 Barrie Midget “AAA” team will be made up of 20 players consisting of 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies.

My coaching philosophy is based on discipline, respect, and hard work.  We will teach team concepts and the individual skills required to compete at “AAA” and beyond.  We will teach correct play, win or lose, so that each player will develop regardless of the outcome and be prepared to move to the next level with confidence and ability.

All positions on this team will be awarded to the “BEST SUITED” and not necessarily the most “skilled player.”  The evaluators will be looking to choose the 18 skaters and 2 goalies that best represent our core hockey philosophies.

Here is what you can expect from your coach(s):

  • All decisions made are based on what is best for THE TEAM
  • Establish and maintain the highest standard of character, approach and performance.  Pursue excellence in everything that we do, every time we do it.
  • Coach all players to have great habits on and off the ice.
  • Promote, create and maintain an atmosphere of trust, honesty and respect.
  • Demand discipline. Do what you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it, the exact way it’s supposed to be done.
  • Create and foster a winning environment. It is who we are. Teachers, competitors, and champions.

Here is what I expect from each player:

  • Be completely committed to being coached.
  • Make mistakes and not excuses. Take ownership for your mistakes.
  • Be a great teammate.  Respect, protect, and help each other.  Have each other’s back.
  • Understand and handle adversity.  Have the grit and mental toughness to be your best regardless of the circumstances.
  • Be Early and Come Prepared.
  • Treat everyone and all facilities with respect.
  • Once you step through the arena doors be prepared to play hockey, compete, and leave it all on the ice.
  • Believe we are the best TEAM every time we step on the ice. Confidence not cockiness.

Our goal is to create a Midget program that rivals the top Midget “AAA” programs in Ontario.  We realize this isn’t something that can be accomplished overnight so we will continue to look for opportunities and sponsorships that will allow us to grow our program.   We’re happy to announce the following for our players this year.

Stick program – Thanks to a generous donation from the “South end Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet” we will be having a team stick program for all players and goalies.

Skating Sharpening – We will be providing free unlimited skating sharpening for all players and goalies at “4Hundred Source for Sports”.

Hockey Accessories – We will be providing skate laces, wax, white, black and plastic tape free to the players all year long.

AP Opportunities

Our partnership with the OHL Barrie Colts has allowed us to build an AP program second to none across the province.  Simcoe Country is a hotbed for Jr. hockey and we’ve partnered with the following teams:
Collingwood Colts – Jr A
Stouffville Spirit – Jr A
Stayner Siskins – Jr C
Alliston Hornets – Jr C
Orillia Terriers – Jr C
Midland Centennials – Jr C
Penetang Kings – Jr C

Our goal is to graduate our players up to one of the above teams and for some to achieve their goal of making the OHL.  Teams in past years have allowed their players to AP but when the rubber hit the road, they’ve rarely allowed them to attend games or practices with these teams.  Our team mandate this year is player development so when a Jr. A/C team needs a player for a practice or game and we have a game or practice ourselves, we will allow a maximum of 2 players to go and experience the Jr. opportunity.  We will work with our other “AA” centers to AP players and in turn give these players their opportunity at “AAA”.

We will be going to the following tournaments this year:
Toronto Titans – September
Barrie – October
Waterloo Golden Puck – December

If the above sounds like something you want to be a part of, tryouts start Sat Aug 24th (Tryout Schedule). We’re looking for those players that want to be a part of a program like this, want to help it grow and evolve, and in turn we will provide an environment that will allow them to move to the next level in hockey make it Jr., the OHL, College or University.

Thank You,
Patrick Armatage
