The Cup North American Championship 2019
The minor atom AAA Barrie Colts crossed the border this past weekend to do battle in Buffalo, New York. As the season starts to wind down and the boys are gearing up for a strong playoff run, our final tournament brought us to The Cup North American Championship.
First up was a game against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, a high ranked US team that was ready to battle. Barrie opened up a quick 2-0 lead and held on for a hard fought 2-1 win. Their second game was vs the Valley Forge Minuteman, on a brisk Friday evening on an outdoor rink the team came ready to play and scored in the opening minute and never looked back securing a 9-0 win. Game three saw your Colts battle the Brantford 99'ers, once again the mighty Colts were solid at both ends of the rink securing a 3-1 victory. Our fourth game had the Colts face off against one of the top ranked teams in Ontario, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Barrie opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead into the final minutes of the first period, however this was not meant to be their day as the Colts fell 7-1.
Securing a 3-1 record after the round robin the Colts lost out on a tie breaker and failed to advance to the next round. Out of 32 teams that entered this tournament the Barrie Colts finish 10th out of the 32.
Great job boys!!!
