Colts have good start at Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament
The Barrie Colts Minor Midget AAA team were at Buckingham Arena over the weekend to compete in the Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament. The tournament featured 50 of the top AAA teams in Ontario and the northern US.
The Colts started the tournament on Thursday against the Toronto Nationals and skated to a 6-1 win. Later that same day, the Colts faced the Brampton 45's and Jacob Ingham posted his first shutout of the tournament, the Colts taking the game 4-0.
On Friday evening in front of a packed house on Scotia Bank Pond 1, the Colts played the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. although getting out to a 1-0 lead, as the teams exchanged chances in very fast paced game, EMC tied the game in the third and it finished a 1-1 tie.
On Saturday morning the Colts played the Grey Bruce Highlanders looking for a win to take first in their division. In what turned into a hard hitting game, Ingham stood tall in net posting another shutout as the Colts took the game 2-0 and a first place division finish.
On Saturday evening, the Colts faced the Halton Hurricanes in their first elimination game and looking for a spot in the final 8 teams of the tournament.
The Colts set the pace early and took the game 3-0 with their 3rd shutout win of the tournament.
On Sunday morning the Colts faced the Junior Canadiens in the quarter finals. Although the Colts matched the play of JRC, they could not overcome a 2-1 JRC lead. The Colts held the play for the final 3 minutes but could not find the back of the net, loosing the game 2-1.
Overall it was a very strong weekend for the Colts.
The Colts are back in action on Sunday September 20th when they host the Markham Waxers at the Allandale Recreation Center. The puck will drop shortly after 8:00pm in the regular season opener.
