Colts and Preds tie 3-3 but Colts win the Start Talking Cup in a shoot out., News, Minor Midget, 2015-2016 (Barrie AAA Zone)

The Barrie Colts Minor Midget AAA team were at the Barrie Molson Center monday night to face the North Central Predators for a huge league game that also had the 'Start Talking Cup' up for grabs. 
The Colts were looking to follow up last years result with a Barrie win but knew it would be a tough task against a very strong North Central team which has had an edge in the two regular season games this year.

In the second annual Start Talking Cup game, the two teams were helping to raise awareness for the STACD program, a program based in simcoe county to help youth age 12-24 Start Talking About Coping and Drugs.  This project aims to raise awareness and coping strategies for youth dealing with mental illness and transitional stress.  Both teams put in alot of work preparing for the game and were definately ready to hit the ice !

The Colts managed to find the back of the net first and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.  The Colts then found some penalty issues as the Predators scored 2 power play goals to take a 2-1 lead.  The preds scored another and held a 3-1 lead in the third period.  The Colts found themselves in penalty troubles again giving the predators a long 5 on 3 power play.  Some strong defensive play held the Preds off the board, killing the power play and giving the Colts a spark to mount a come back.  The Colts scored twice in the third period to tie the game at 3-3.

The Predators mounted a strong attack in the last minute of play, really challenging the Colts in an effort to win the game but Parker Simpson made save after save to preserve a tie for the Colts.

So as the teams split the two league points, the 'Start Talking Cup' was still up for grabs.

Off to a shoot out.  While the Colts scored on their first two shooters, the Preds could only get one by Simpson who secured the win for the Barrie Colts !

The Colts are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Whitby to take on the Wildcats in their second meeting of the season.
