Marble Slab - Sports Medicine Bantam AAA Colts compete hard at Marlies Holiday Classic Tournament.
Marble Slab - Sports Medicine Bantam AAA Colts were in Toronto over the Christmas break to play in the Marlies Holiday Classic Tournament. While the team completed very hard and had a great weekend, they came up a bit short against the provinces best Mississauga Rebels.
The Bantam AAA Colts started the tournament on the right foot with a 4-2 win over the Vaughn Kings. Game 2 had the Colts playing a rested Detroit Jimmy Johns team who skated stride for stride with the Colts for a 2-2 tie.
In game 3, the Colts played the Eastern Ontario Wild and the Colts scoring got going. The Colts found the back of the net 5 times taking the game 5-1.
The Colts then played another Ottawa area team, the Ottawa Senators to finish out their round robin play and with a chance to finish the top of their pool. The Colts scored early to take a 1-0 lead. It what was a very fast game with great goaltending at both ends of the ice and in the end, the goal stood and the Colts won the game 1-0.
The Colts finished top of their poor with 7 pts and 5th overall in tournament standings.
The Colts then faced a tough test in the conference quarter finals in the Mississauga Senators.
The Colts again scored early and pushed the pace for the entire game. The Colts managed a 3-0 lead before giving up a late goal when the Sen's had their goalie pulled. The Colts won the game 3-1 with a strong overall performance.
This win lead to a match up in the conference semi finals with the Provinces best team, the Mississauga Rebels.
While the Colts tried to leave it all on the ice, the Rebels proved too much, scoring 2 goals late in 3rd to take the game 5-1.
The Colts are back in action this weekend as league play continues.
The Colts host the Markham Waxers on Saturday evening at the Innisfil Rec Centre and then travel to Ajax Sunday afternoon to play the Raiders.
